About Me

To live will be an awfully big adventure
Hi, I’m Rebecca,

At the end of December 2014, my husband and I emigrated to Bangkok, Thailand from the UK leaving behind our family, friends, jobs, our beautiful dog and our comfort zone!

Our move (most said was brave, some said was crazy) was totally necessary to mentally save ourselves from the mundane routine of our lives in the UK; living for the weekend and the odd trip abroad for some much needed sunshine just wasn’t cutting it for us anymore! We had never been to Bangkok, or Thailand for that matter, before my husband accepted his job here but we optimistically told ourselves life’s too short, it was time for an adventure and lets face it, we could always go home if it didn’t work out! Over three years later and we thank our lucky stars everyday we were brave enough to take the plunge!

Before emigrating my career was in retail, specifically interiors and homeware focusing on publishing and photography but my real love has always been beauty and travel. Having been an avid blog reader for years, I created Travels of a Beauty Addict to document our adventures, everyday life, expat struggles, our travels and of course my beauty purchases, for myself, for my family and friends and for anyone else interested enough to read Travels of a Beauty Addict. I hope in someway you find this little slice of my world enjoyable!

And for anyone reading this wondering if moving abroad is right for you – do it, you can always go home if it doesn’t work out!

    Hi Rebecca,
It’s Beth Golding from Next- we emailed back and forth for a couple years and was lovely to see you whenever you occasionally came to Premier Park.

Just seen your face on fit travel’s Instagram and now have seen your Instagram, it looks great and just read your About Me.. Extremely inspiring for me at this stage in my life as I’m thinking of doing exactly the same thing, not sure this 9-5 life in London is what life is about.

Good for you for being so brave, I may have to follow your footsteps and if I’m in Thailand again soon, we should meet up as I may be heading there in Jan.

Would hugely appreciate a follow on my interiors Instagram bgoldinteriors?

    Good luck with everything.
    Beth xxx

    1. Hello lovely!!!
Of course I remember you! How are you? And how’s everyone at PP? Looking forward to Christmas I bet!!!
Did you get over to Thailand earlier this year?
My advice to anyone thinking of emigrating is just do it – if you don’t like it you can always go home. Moving here was honestly the best decision we ever made! If you need any advice or more info please get in touch, so happy to help! And definitely give me a shout when you’re next here, would be lovely to have dinner and drinks!
      Love to everyone at PP!

Well done Rebecca. I don’t follow many blogs because it’s too time consuming. You’ve got a nice one going here and thanks for following jamoroki. I’d love to know what attracted you. Keep well. James

    1. Thanks so much James, that means a lot. I found you looking for Thai expats with interesting blogs! Your imagery is beautiful!

I should have added. ‘It looks like you are island people. Have you ventured into rural Thailand yet where your thinking will definitely given a poke?’

    1. I can’t deny that I am a beach person at heart and yes, I definitely need to explore Thailand more! Being restricted to school holidays means by the end of term I inevitably end up plumping for R&R on a beach somewhere exhausted and ‘postponing’ the exploration for next time – not a great excuse I know! I suppose as we see ourselves here for the long term it takes the pressure off a little!
